Leachate from landfills are complex effluents which contain various types of organic, inorganic and microbial pollutants. In addition to containing suspended solids and turbidity, these effluents carry many microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, yeast, protozoa, etc.). There are also phosphorus compounds and heavy metals that are hardly eliminated. With tighter standards of landfill and incineration of waste (REIMR), technology developed by E2Metrix is indicated to allow safe release of these effluents.

FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRY
Treatment of wastewater from cheese factories and diaries is still required before being discharged into the environment due to the high load of organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus. Electrocoagulation is a simple, economical and effective method to remove solids, oils and fats and BOD5 present in this kind of water. Nitrogen, including the ammonia nitrogen form, can be eliminated by forming struvite, insoluble mineral that is considered as fertilizer for soil.
HARVESTING AND PRIMARY DEWATERING OF MICROALGAE
Sustainable development is a principle key for the management of natural resources. Continued use of fossil fuel energy resources is no longer viable due to the depletion of world reserves. Moreover, microalgae can fight against climate changes by reducing CO2 emissions, waste that becomes a source of nutrition. Consequently, the emergence of bioenergy is one of the priorities of the action plan of Quebec against climate changes 2013-2020. Several research initiatives to develop alternative energy resources such as 3rd generation biofuels or from microalgae are currently underway. Microalgae harvesting is a critical phase, especially for the production of biofuels. Electrocoagulation is proven to be an interesting technology for harvesting at a very low energetic cost. Furthermore, this technology allows the primary dewatering of the biomass, without altering either the cellular membrane or cellular contents.
