While there are several robust, reliable and affordable solutions for the removal of nutrients, such as ammonia and phosphorus, from wastewater streams at large centralized treatment plants, most of the traditional options, from biological nutrient removal to the well-developed struvite recovery systems are either impractical or unaffordable for small, decentralized operations.

Building on the well-understood principle of electrolysis, the ECOTHOR™ technology from E2metrix combines a high-efficiency, proprietary power management system with a unique, patented magnesium alloy electrode to create a modular, process platform that can be easily incorporated into any green-field or retrofit application to reduce ammonia and phosphorus in the wastewater stream to the strictest discharge quality levels and to recover them as a reusable magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP or struvite) fertilizer. While other struvite-based technologies offer exceptional performance on medium to large wastewater flows, this powerful new platform from E2metrix opens this option to applications in the many thousands of decentralized and small municipal or sanitary wastewater treatment facilities.
